Recently we had the privilege of running our environmental education programmes in partnership with the City of Cape Town Environmental Management Department at the Smart Living Centre and Biodiversity Showcase Garden in Green Point Park.

In total, we reached over 406 learners over nine programmes. The last session will take place in June.

Learners had much fun engaging in various activities covering topics ranging from Biodiversity to Heritage. Some of the feedback received from Teachers include:

The entire program was well enriched both indoor and outdoor. It was holistic enrichment for the learners. It was so much fun. Very different from anything they’ve ever experienced. For many, it was a first at Green Point Park” – Westville Primary School.

During the day’s programmes, the team was reminded once again why we do the work we do when a learner came up to us at the end of the programme and presented us with a card she made to say thank you for how much she learned today. This came from a learner who couldn’t attend school for almost a year. The learner had difficulty in class due to various social issues, but for the first time, the teacher reported that she saw a different learner. The learner engaged with us and interacted well during various activities.

Our facilitators were moved by the fact that children were even surprised and thankful that there was toilet paper in the bathrooms because it’s not something they always have access to at home.

Most of the learners we work with have never been outside of the area within which they reside. These learners will forever remember what they have experienced and learned in our programmes!
