On the 28th October the Gantouw Projec celebrated the 1 year anniversary of the eland’s arrival at Rondevlei. If you haven’t visited them lately, go say hi and see how big they are growing! The eland are fast becoming real ambassadors for their species and for endangered Cape Flats Dune Strandveld, helping us broadcast the Gantouw message and vision.

A significant highlight of the year was receiving a Certificate of Recognition from the City of Cape Town for being a “Highly Recommended Project and Team”.

Staff development is also a priority within the project with the eland monitors participating in the following skills development programmes: field rangers, first aid, brush cutter and chain saw training; with two of the monitors being involved in the NQF level 4 Environmental Practices learnership.

All in all, it is wonderful to see this project grow into the success it is. Congratulations to everyone on their hard work!
