Penguin monitors working on Burghers’ Walk were saddened to discover 22 dead penguins killed by dogs in the last week of September 2015. This comes after the City of Cape Town placed a temporary ban on dogs along Burghers’ Walk after the death of 8 penguins between 19 & 20 August.

At present 109 nests are located along Burghers’ Walk and as the African penguin is currently listed as endangered by the IUCN) the City is obliged to put measures in place to protect these penguins.

CTEET along with it’s project partners, City, SANParks and SANCCOB will appoint, in the upcoming months, a further two penguin monitors to assist the four staff currently on the project, so watch this space!
