On September 16, 2023, World Cleanup Day provided an opportunity for three environmental collaborators to join forces in a unified effort. The City, Paarden Eiland City Improvement District (PECID), and Nature Connect partnered to demonstrate their commitment to environmental improvement by organising a community clean-up event at the Zoarvlei Section of the Table Bay Nature Reserve (TBNR).

TBNR staff coordinated the involvement of children and parents from local schools in the Brooklyn, Rugby, and Phoenix areas. Despite challenging weather conditions, including intermittent showers, a substantial community turnout demonstrated their dedication to the cause. In two hours, participants managed to collect 126 kilograms of litter from the nature reserve, which has unfortunately become a common dumping site.

PECID generously distributed goodie bags to show appreciation to the spirited community members who participated in the clean-up. We extend our sincere gratitude to the community members and partner organizations whose collective efforts made this event possible, reflecting a shared commitment to environmental awareness and action.

Together, we continue to work towards a cleaner, more sustainable future.
