It is #WomensMonth in South Africa and we are celebrating #MotherEarth and the women in our organisation that is passionate about protecting her.

Women’s Month is for acknowledging the achievements of women, past, present, and future. Although it often brings up the inequities and challenges that need to be addressed regarding women’s involvement in all sectors of society – we are honoured to have an organisation with remarkable women who, in some shape or form, make an impact on our environment and beautiful country.

Whether it is helping individuals connect to Nature, leading a team, managing a pocket of Nature within the city, or being the oil that keeps the machine running – the women of Nature Connect deserves to be celebrated!

“Women have had a unique relationship with the environment for generations through their role in society. Today this role is still very much alive, especially in rural communities. Through this role, women have been managers of our natural resources with a generational understanding of the environment and its benefits to us as human beings. The importance of this understanding and relationship is of utmost importance for future conservation efforts and the work of future generations…” shares Jocelyn, our Sustainable Schools Programme Manager.

Just as Mother Earth is a personification of Nature, with a particular focus on the nurturing and life-giving aspects of the natural world – these women remind us that we can all tap into our nurturing Nature and wisdom to care for our planet.

“I think women have an essential role in biodiversity conservation as we are considered to be nurturers. We are protectors, carers, and supporters of Mother Earth by ensuring its natural resources are sustainably benefited from. I think many people think that conservation should be a man’s industry. Still, for years, women have been proving this to be incorrect as we empower and bring forth change to biodiversity conservation by showing not only our physical strength but also mentally” says Fayruz our assistant Conservation Officer At Kenilworth Racecourse Conservation Area.

Above them loving their jobs and their role at Nature Connect, these ladies live authentically and challenge themselves to continuously learn and grow!

Our operation coordinator Nicole says it best: “I love watching the people I work with grow and achieve their goals. We work with so many different kinds of people, and they all make an impact – whether in the environmental education programme, conservation, training, or even in the organisations operations. We have such a great team of people!”

Thank you for everything you do team! We honour and appreciate you!

Happy Women’s Month!
