A big congratulations to our interns on completing their CATHSSETA-funded internship programme! This programme offers nature conservation graduates entry into the sector. They are provided with valuable on-the-job experience as well as mentorship on nature reserves across Cape Town. “We have walked a year-long journey together and I would like to thank you for allowing us to be part of this passage and assist you to reach your career goals. Through my interactions and engagements with you, I have seen you all grow professionally and personally – and I admire your commitment and contribution to conservation. As you progress in life, you will encounter challenges, but the key is to have a positive attitude. Please heed these moving words by Lou Holtz, “Ability is what you’re capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it.” Always maintain a positive attitude in your career, your personal life, remember the skills you have gained, and may you be successful in all aspects of your life. As you embark on your new career venture, we wish you well and may you continue to carry CTEET’s name high!” said Toshca-Lee Gilliland, Training & Development Manager. In her exit interview graduate Marianne Stevens had this to say about the benefits of her internship with CTEET, “I am capable! There were some tasks that were outside of my previous experience or education and for these I had to work extra hard and read more. It took work, but in the end I managed to do the tasks well and I learnt something in the process. This gave me more confidence and I wasn’t afraid to volunteer for certain tasks, because I knew I could do them with some extra work.”
