Providing career pathways for youth to gain access into the Green Economy.

Many youth in South Africa face daunting challenges with 60% of those below the age of 25 being unemployed, at risk of being drawn into gangsterism and substance abuse. Additionally, a struggling education system and high school dropout rates have resulted in a low percentage of youth with suitable school results to enter tertiary education. Furthermore, the lack of affordability and the responsibilities of becoming breadwinners hinders many young people from gaining the education and skills necessary to pursue their desired careers. Since 2006, our training and development interventions have provided hope and created opportunities for individuals to have greater choices over their careers and futures.

Nature Conservation Learnerships

We address the skills shortage in South Africa by providing education and training opportunities for low-income youth. Our year-long NQF level 2 learnership program in Nature Conservation, run in partnership with the City of Cape Town and funded by CATHSSETA and the Table Mountain Fund, has successfully upskilled and qualified 119 individuals.

With six learnership programs offered to date, including NQF level 5 Environmental Management and Nature Conservation: Environmental Practices NQF 4, 85% of our learners have secured permanent employment or continued their studies. Join us in creating a brighter future through education and training.

Graduate Internships

In order to give recent Nature Conservation Graduates an opportunity to get a foot in the door of the sector, we offer 12-month long Graduate Internships. The interns are placed on City of Cape Town Nature Reserves across the City, gaining valuable on-the-job experience as well as mentorship from their Reserve Managers.
