Our Nature Connect team recently attended a successful Western Cape Stewardship Reference Group Peer Learning Workshop hosted by Cape Nature.

The Nature Care Fund area managers were among the group who enjoyed the privilege of learning more about stewardship opportunities. This included conservation easements and other effective area-based conservation mechanisms (OECMs) at the Grootvadersbos Nature Reserve workshop outside Swellendam.

The ecological restoration stories shared, along with honest reflection and helpful insights based on years of experience, is precisely what “peer-learning” is all about.

Eyeball to fleeting eyeball with the Breede River redfin (Pseudobarbus burchelli), one of the Critically Endangered Cape Floristic Region fishes, was another highlight of many during the two-day workshop.

Making new friends and growing relationships in the sector is always very valuable. Moments like these Peer Learning Workshops encourage and remind us all about what we are working for and why.

On behalf of Nature Connect we would like to thank those at Cape Nature for hosting such a successful workshop, and a special thanks to Anita Wheeler and your team for leading the charge!

A hearty cheer to all those conservators working in their patch to steward nature well!
