On the 1st of April 2022, the U.S. Consulate joined the Nature Connect River Ambassador team for an early Earth day cleanup at the Mocke Wetland; a site of particular importance for the endangered Western Leopard Toad.

Mocke has a high concentration of alien invasive plant species that threaten this important wetland, which our dedicated River Ambassadors Team had been clearing for the past few months. Therefore, it was a perfect opportunity to plant indigenous plant species!

The event was a great success and we are so grateful to all those from the US Consulate, the City of Cape Town, and Nature Connect who got their hands dirty. Together, they managed to pick up all 28 bags of litter and clear an embankment of alien invasive species which was promptly replanted with indigenous species.

A special thank you to Will Stevens, Acting US Consul General Cape Town, and Alex Lansdowne, Councillor: Mayoral Advisory Committee on Water Quality in Wetlands and Waterways for joining us.

Well done team for your continued work to protect our natural environment!
