The Problem We Address

Urbanisation and screen time are disconnecting Cape Town’s youth from nature, leading to Nature Deficit Disorder (NDD). The Connect to Nature programme bridges this gap by fostering environmental education and inspiring long-term care for our planet. Hands-on outdoor experiences foster environmental awareness and education, empowering future conservationists.

Over seven years, selected students embark on an immersive journey, gaining hands-on experience in conservation while actively participating in environmental projects. They explore South Africa’s diverse ecosystems, learning about biodiversity, ecological challenges, and sustainable solutions.

The programme deepens their understanding of nature, introduces them to a wide range of conservation careers, and equips them with the skills and confidence to become environmental leaders who drive positive change in their communities.

Bringing Environmental Education to Schools

Our curriculum-aligned programmes seamlessly fit into school timetables, running for 1 to 3 hours on school premises. Designed for foundational and intermediate phases, they use engaging stories and interactive games to spark a love for nature. They integrate easily into lesson plans, cover all eight focus areas, and provide fun, hands-on learning experiences.

Explore and Learn with our Immersive Nature Excursions

For a deeper connection to nature, our five-hour immersive excursions take learning beyond the classroom.

Hosted at Zeekoevlei Environmental Education Centre and the Biodiversity Showcase Garden, these experiences offer interactive outdoor learning, cover key environmental themes, and can be customised to suit your needs and location.
